To:

Dear friends

The European Space Agency (ESA), along with University of Svalbard, SIOS and Norwegian Space Centre are organising the
ESA Cryosphere Remote Sensing Training Course 2018.

Attendance in this course is free of charge and it will take in Svalbard next year in June.
There is a limited number of applications and deadline is on December 15th.
Please find more information in the course website > http://eoscience4society.esa.int/CTC18/

Fell free to share this among your mailings lists and social networks.
You can find attached also a PDF and JPG image to promote this course.

I am involved in the organisation of this course, and I of course, it makes all the sense to share this with our super network of polar early career scientists!!

Have a very nice day,
Sara
(your colleague from APECS Portugal!)

[IPRNmail] Polar Week 2017 Activity updates

Dear Members

Polar Week 2017 is round the corner (Sept 18 - 24). If you are planning any activity such as  talk, interaction, contests etc. in schools, colleges, universities etc. in and around your area, please let us know in advance. We would like to help you plan and execute any activity that you might be considering. Please also share with us photographs or videos from the event which we will put up on our Facebook page and website.

If you are also interested in sharing a short clip on your work in Arctic, Antarctica or Himalayas, please send it over to us. We are in the process of creating a movie based on all the shared videos which will then be publicised online for the larger audience.

Looking forward for your response.

[IPRNmail] Survey for Antarctic Near-Shore and Terrestrial Observation System

Dear Antarctic Researcher:

The SCAR Expert Group ANTOS (Antarctic Near-Shore and Terrestrial Observation System) is a continent-wide biologically-focussed initiative to assess responses to environmental variability and change.  A first step in establishing ANTOS is gathering information about which locations in Antarctica and the subantarctic islands might be optimal for gathering these measurements.

The survey below (see link) is intended to cast a broad net, capturing some of the general properties of each site.  It is not intended to be exhaustive.  Please provide as much information about each site as possible, but don't feel obligated to provide information beyond that with which you are familiar.  While many questions are applicable to sites with established long-term datasets, we welcome proposals for new sites as well.

If you wish to provide information about more than one site, please fill out a different survey for each site.

We would like this survey to have the broadest distribution possible.  Forward this message as appropriate to others who may have an interest in this effort.  The survey will close 30 September, 2017.

[IPRNmail] Webinar on Making Antarctic Maps and Figures with Quantarctica

Webinar on Making Antarctic Maps and Figures with Quantarctica

Quantarctica, a SCAR product, is a collection of Antarctic geographical datasets which works with the free, open-source software QGIS and builds on the SCAR Antarctic Digital Database. It currently includes geography, glaciology and geophysics data, and will expand with contributions from the research community.

To demonstrate how Quantarctica can help ease the difficulties in Antarctic map making and producing figures for publication, APECS is hosting a webinar entitled "Making Antarctic Maps and Figures with Quantarctica" in June.

The webinar will be from 13:00 – 14:00 GMT, June 7 and to register please go to:
