I am writing this email on behalf of APECS Remote Sensing Project Group. We are conducting a survey and we want your help to circulate this message among the researchers. The content is as follows:


Dear IPRN community,


The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) Council 2020/21 are working on a project to synthesise and review the applications of Satellite Remote Sensing across the Polar sciences. Our goal is to develop a database and accompanying document that summarises key information about satellite platforms, including (but not limited to): technical characteristics, applications in Polar science, data accessibility and processing requirements.


The motivation behind this project was to create a resource which could be used by the Polar community to inform their research, to be used in teaching and to help improve the understanding and awareness of Satellite Remote Sensing in Polar science. The APECS Remote Sensing Database Project group [Link to APECS Project Group Website] came together to tackle this challenge head on and build a resource that will be beneficial to the whole community. 


For this resource to be as effective as possible, we would like to obtain input from the Polar and Cryosphere community (here, we define the "Polar and Cryosphere community" as anyone studying in one of the three Poles (the Arctic, Antarctic or the Himalayan region), or across the alpine cryosphere). On this basis we would like to ask you to fill out this short survey which we have prepared:

The survey is short (~10 mins to complete) and is designed to obtain information about the satellite-based instruments you are using in your research, the applications of these data sets and other technical characteristics (e.g. processing software). We will collate this information and summarise it within our database and accompanying document. The deadline for completing the survey is 8th March 2021.

Thank you for joining us during the webinar on International Mountain Day. Taking the same forward as informed earlier, IPRN has opened the submissions for photography contest and here's the details about the same: 

Date and Day for final submissions: 18th December, 2020 (Friday)

You can submit your photographs for competition by filling this form on or before the deadline.

Rules of submission are:

1.) only one photograph per participant should be submitted.
2.) File size should be equal to or less than 10 MB (but not more than 10 MB)
3.) Winner and runner-up will be selected according to the voting system.

Please feel free to forward this mail to your colleagues/ peer groups that might be interested in participating.

[IPRNmail] Updates from IPRN 2020/21

Dear IPRN Members,

Greetings from newly formulated IPRN ExCom 2020/21. Hope you all are doing well.


We're happy to inform you about the initial happenings that took place last week at IPRN, the most important one is having a more structured IPRN ExCom now. 


Rahul Dey, has been unanimously elected as our new president of ExCom and rest of the ExCom members, Swati Tak, Dr. Har Amrit Singh Sandhu, Sakshi Mankotia and Priyanka, will act as the vice-presidents.


Additionally, two more separate positions have been decided for:


(i) Dr. Har Amrit Singh Sandhu has been elected as the NC representative to represent IPRN at APECS - International and take care of all the formalities to be done with APECS-International throughout the term.  

(ii) Swati Tak has been elected as the Social Media Coordinator and she'll be taking care of all the social media activities and updates throughout the term. 


We have also started working towards formulating working groups/ projects groups in coming weeks through the guidance from our ex-officios.

We are hoping for the IPRN Leadership to achieve a lot this year along with your support and collective efforts in coming times. If you have any suggestions or ideas to contribute, please feel free to drop us (i.e., to the ExCom) an email at ex-com_iprn@googlegroups.com.

In line to this, we thank all the members for staying connected with us and you'll hear from us soon on more interesting activities at IPRN in the coming times.
