Hi, please forward to mailing list and add on social media.
-R

Opportunity for Early Career Scientists to join ESSAS Steering Committee

Calling early career researchers (ECRs) working on the impacts of climate change in Arctic marine systems

If you are interested in the impacts of climate change on high-latitude marine ecosystems, this is your opportunity to help shape the future of the Ecosystem Studies of the Subarctic and Arctic Seas (ESSAS) programme. ESSAS is a regional programme under the Integrated Marine Biosphere Research (IMBeR) project and is inviting nominations for an Early Career Scientist (within 6 years of PhD completion, excluding any periods of leave) to join its Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) for a three-year renewable term. The SSC is responsible for the development, planning and implementation of science with the goal to "compare, quantify and predict the impact of climate variability on the productivity and sustainability of Subarctic and Arctic marine ecosystems".

We are seeking members from any of the countries bordering the Arctic, or any country with active research programmes in the Arctic. We are striving to diversify our SSC membership and encourage women and minorities to apply. Nominees with expertise in any aspect of high-latitude marine ecosystems will be considered. This includes but is not limited to oceanography, integrated modelling of socio-ecological-economic systems, Indigenous knowledge, and marine policy/governance science.

Please send a CV and brief biographical sketch to the ESSAS co-chairs:

Naomi Harada haradan@jamstec.go.jp

Franz Mueter fmueter@alaska.edu

Benjamin Planque benjamin.planque@hi.no

Dear IPRN,

Hope this email finds you well!

I am writing this email on behalf of APECS Remote Sensing Project Group. We are conducting a survey and we want your help to circulate this message among the researchers. The content is as follows:

Dear IPRN community,

The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) Council 2020/21 are working on a project to synthesise and review the applications of Satellite Remote Sensing across the Polar sciences. Our goal is to develop a database and accompanying document that summarises key information about satellite platforms, including (but not limited to): technical characteristics, applications in Polar science, data accessibility and processing requirements.

The motivation behind this project was to create a resource which could be used by the Polar community to inform their research, to be used in teaching and to help improve the understanding and awareness of Satellite Remote Sensing in Polar science. The APECS Remote Sensing Database Project group [Link to APECS Project Group Website] came together to tackle this challenge head on and build a resource that will be beneficial to the whole community.

For this resource to be as effective as possible, we would like to obtain input from the Polar and Cryosphere community (here, we define the "Polar and Cryosphere community" as anyone studying in one of the three Poles (the Arctic, Antarctic or the Himalayan region), or across the alpine cryosphere). On this basis we would like to ask you to fill out this short survey which we have prepared:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScpcyU4z6Dx0FMWue2X6xLi0ePK73IumJ-pOG-x9lYWRVE7Lw/viewform

The survey is short (~10 mins to complete) and is designed to obtain information about the satellite-based instruments you are using in your research, the applications of these data sets and other technical characteristics (e.g. processing software). We will collate this information and summarise it within our database and accompanying document. The deadline for completing the survey is 8th March 2021.

If you would like to know more about this project or think you can help, please don't hesitate to get in touch with the Project leadership (Will Harcourt (wdh1@st-andrews.ac.uk), Hiral Jain (hj.hiral@gmail.com), or Mikhail Latonin (mikhail.latonin@niersc.spb.ru)).

We look forward to hearing your responses!

All the best,

Remote Sensing Database Project Group (APECS)
