interested in conducting a project in Germany

The fellowship allows future leaders to spend a year in Germany working on a research-related project of their own choice in the field of climate protection. Fellows are free to choose their own hosts. Submit an application if you come froma non-European transition or developing country and are involved with issues relating to the scientific, engineering, legal, economic or social aspects of climate change. Up to 20 fellowships will be granted, funded under the Federal Environment Ministry's International Climate Initiative.

This event was created to celebrate the spirit of international peace and scientific cooperation that signified the signing of the Antarctic Treaty in 1959.

Dr. Krithi Karanth is looking to hire 2-3 research assistants at the
Centre for Wildlife Studies for research projects to be conducted in
multiple Indian states. Assistants will have to be fluent in multiple
Indian languages, work in teams, and be extremely adaptable to field
conditions along with a strong passion for wildlife. Good people
skills are extremely important both for the research and ability to
work as part of a team. Candidates will be selected after a screening
of their applications to judge their suitability for doing the work.

Candidates must
1. Possess bachelors and/ Master's degrees in Environment, Wildlife,
Biology or related fields.
2. Be fluent in Kannada or Hindi and English. Fluency in other Indian
languages will be a bonus.
3. Physically very fit and have some experience in hiking through
rough countryside.
4. Be willing to work long and arduous hours, very meticulous and organized.

Research and Statistics Essentials | 22nd - 24th November 2013

"Research and Statistics Essentials" is an intense 3-day program primarily for researchers who are pursuing their Master's or Doctoral degrees and professionals alike. The course is framed in a such way as to guide both early career researchers and researchers submitting their thesis. The first part of the programme deals with research essentials, aims to enable participants with fundamentals of research and ways to go about carrying out independent research. It will go through aspects of defining the research; literature review; framing the objectives and questions; hypothesis testing, overview of statistical methods and analytical techniques; and conclude with writing and presentation skills. The second part deals with statistics essentials, covering topics on nature of data and data types (parametrics and non-parametric); descriptive statistics (describing, exploring and comparing data, graphical representation); distributions;  working with R software, inferential statistics; hypothesis testing (t-tests, F-test, etc.) and interpretation of statistical output. The course will provide hands-on exposure to some of the tools like Freemind and Mendeley for research essentials and R for statistics essentials. Click here for more details.
